Jag Mundhra directs ‘naughty’ Govinda
For a comic caper in a ‘Govinda kind of film’

Bollywood makes strange bedfellows. And the latest jodi is Jag Mundhra and Bollywood’s maverick actor and MP Govinda! It was Govinda who approached the ace director and asked him to do his next film Naughty@Forty, a comic caper involving a 40-year-old bachelor who is infatuated by a young girl.

Jag, initially, was reluctant because from the sounds of it, this appeared to be a “Govinda kind of film”. And Jag admitted, “It was low brow, which I’ve never attempted before, I’m more used to the Woody Allen kind of comedy.” But Govinda persevered, he got Anupam Kher (who is also in the film) to counsel Jag, and soon the director was ready.

“Govinda’s films sell big time, I believe, and he placed all his trust in me, which was a great incentive,” said Jag. “He told me that we would be the next hit jodi like David Dhawan and him earlier.” Jag, who has made films like Provoked, Kamal and Backwater, had offered Govinda a role a few years ago when the actor’s career was on a slump.

“But he humbly declined saying he wasn’t in the position to take on a solo film as he wasn’t hot at the box office. I liked his humility,” revealed Jag. But Partner changed Govinda’s fortunes and the actor, along with producer Sanddeep Kapur and Anuj Sharma, went to meet Jag in London and that’s how Naughty@Forty happened. The romantic lead opposite Govinda has yet to be finalised.

“We are auditioning,” admitted Jag. Twenty days of shooting in London is over already. The unit now shifts to India. The film has music by Monty Sharma who did Saawariya.

Everybody wants to be Ekta’s friend

Ekta Kapoor, who was never tech savvy and shied away from the computer, has suddenly got hooked onto a laptop. The Soap Queen, despite running a huge television empire, could never get herself to surf the net or explore the virtual world.

“I didn’t even know how to open an email account for myself,” Ekta admitted to BT.

But that’s a thing of the past. She is fast emerging as the new techie on the block. “I can’t believe what’s happening! My laptop’s on most of the time. I have opened myself up to a whole new world and it’s fantastic. Imagine, I was away from it all this while!” she exclaimed.

One of Ekta’s current interests on the internet is a popular networking site. The moment the telly industry got whiff of Ekta being on the site, friendship requests started pouring in. On one day, she got 300! “I can’t accept so many,” smiled the TV Czarina.

But in her busy schedule now, she’s managed to squeeze in computer time! Welcome to cyberia, Ekta!

Hello, it’s Kat and the cello!
Katrina Kaif proves she is musically inclined by learning a complex instrument for Subhash Ghai’s film

Katrina Kaif loves taking up challenges and living upto them too. So, when Subhash Ghai required her to play the cello in Yuuvraj where she costars with Salman Khan and Anil Kapoor, the actress took up the bowed string instrument used in chamber music as a challenge. And, in three months, proved to be quite adept at playing it... if not a first class cellist.

“It’s an exhilarating experience to be able to play an instrument as complex as the cello,” admitted Kat. “I used to be jealous of people who could play musical instruments and make lovely music. Now I’m thrilled to be able to do so myself.”

Her strategy was to focuss more on learning the correct body language and to be able to sync and strike the right chords, the Bollywood hottie said. What made it more special was the fact that Kat learned to play the cello in Salzburg, the birthplace of music greats like Mozart.

“It felt like music and love was in the air, it was so peaceful and beautiful,” she reminisced. While Ghai and Kapoor were most encouraging, her mischievous boyfriend Salman teased her throughout. “They would say, ‘Don’t worry how you sound, the camera only captures your expressions’. But Salman would add, ‘What’s so difficult in learning to play the cello? I could play it just like that’,” revealed the actress. “What could I say to that. After all, he is Salman Khan. He can do anything.”
